About us
Voluntary Sector Solutions was launched by Claire Knapton, drawing on more than 10 years' experience of working with not-for-profit organisations. Claire Knapton is well-respected within the voluntary sector and is a member of the Institute of Fundraising.
Claire entered the voluntary sector in 1992 as a volunteer fundraiser for Friends of the Earth, raising £10,000 for them in just 3 weeks. She went on to work for a drama school in London's East End, securing sponsorship for their end of year show.
At the Cancer Research Campaign (now Cancer Research UK), she managed a £1.3m portfolio of employee fundraising drives, corporate sponsorship and trust grants. As the Zoological Society of London's Fundraising Manager, Claire implemented a new fundraising strategy incorporating London Zoo and Whipsnade Wild Animal Park. She co-ordinated fundraising for their international conservation aims, captive breeding programmes and capital projects. She wrote two successful National Lottery applications and raised a total of £1.5m.
Claire joined the Family Planning Association with the brief to establish a professional fundraising operation. She produced a 3-year fundraising strategy which resulted in voluntary contributions increasing by 300% in the first year. She wrote two more successful lottery applications and raised nearly £1m in 2 years.
Claire established Voluntary Sector Solutions to provide consultancy and hands-on support to charities and other voluntary and public sector organisations. She and her associates offer a wide range of experience in all aspects of not-for-profit management.
